About The Players Theater Company

The Players Theatre Company began in 1967 as The Little Theatre of Conroe and produced shows on the Conroe High School stage and then in a former plumbing supply store at the corner of Galveston and Robertson Streets. In 1979 the group helped to clean and restore The Crighton Theatre where we operated for nearly 30 years as The Crighton Players. In 2008 we moved into our current residence at The Owen Theatre.

Director Marieda Kilgore will hold auditions for fan favorite, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", January 7 and 8, at the Owen Theatre in Conroe!

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime, while candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

*Actors will not be double-cast.
*All roles will be portrayed by different actors.
*Everyone cast will be used as ensemble too.
*Although many characters are middle schoolers, they will be played by actors aged late teens to adult.
